Join the Student Association Board of Trustees!

Fellow Students-

We're looking for passionate, motivated students who want to make a positive difference in the lives of their UWM peers. If you have the leadership qualities required to advocate for your fellow students, build productive relationships and bring exciting events to campus, please keep reading as there is a unique opportunity for you to be involved…

The University Student Court, in light of the Chancellors decision, has declared the April 2013 Student Association Elections results invalid. Subsequently, the University Student Court created a Board of Trustees to represent the student body and rebuild the Student Association with a firm goal of building a responsive, accountable and respected organization that serves the students of this campus. The Board of Trustees will operate until a recognized election is complete, which will be no earlier than 10 October 2013. (As of now the new election will take place 1 Oct 13 thru 3 Oct 13. The new representatives will be sworn in on 10 Oct. 2013.)

The mission of the Student Association is to represent the Students of UW-Milwaukee by ensuring that students have a say in the issues that affect them, decide where their fees go and work with university staff and faculty to make sure every decision made by the institution represents the best interests of its students. This is done by appointing students to relevant committees, allocating segregated fees, and positioning ourselves centrally in the process of creating and reviewing policies that concern student life. The Board of Trustees will help to further develop the mission of the Student Association and will represent the student body until a recognized election is complete.

Working collaboratively and constructively with the University Student Court, Faculty/Staff, Students, and Administrators, the Board of Trustees will work through the summer and early fall to keep the student voice active and build a strong foundation for future Student Association leaders to carry forward. As a member of the board of trustees, you would be given the opportunity to help create, amend or rescind bylaws or other governing rules of the organization; allocate segregated fees to have a say where your money goes; and work towards a promising future for UWM by advocating for students in areas that impact their lives and interests. Additionally, the Board of Trustees is empowered to identify and address shortcomings of the Student Association and its bylaws.

This is an opportunity for students to be involved with important decisions that effect the direction of the institution, and help the Student Association become a more responsive, accountable and respected organization. We need committed, ethical, and passionate leaders to do this and hope that you will consider applying.

If you are interested in helping the student body by serving as a trustee please take the time to complete the application by following this link: https://orgsync.com/24722/forms/74802
